Dollhouse Raffle Honors Paramedic’s Legacy, Supports Local EMS

McCOOK, Neb. — A lovingly crafted dollhouse now on display at the McCook Municipal Building is more than just a miniature work of art — it’s a tribute to a life of extraordinary service and sacrifice.

Donated in memory of Dayle Erin Morningstar Laird by her parents, Maureen and Lonnie Wood of McCook, the dollhouse is being raffled by the City of McCook Fire Department to raise funds for critical EMS equipment.

Dayle’s remarkable journey began in McCook, where she graduated from McCook High School before pursuing higher education at Chadron State College and Northwest Florida State College, earning a degree in psychology. Fueled by a deep commitment to helping others, she entered the world of emergency medical services, serving as an EMT with Okaloosa County EMS in Florida.

Her paramedic career took her across the country — from ocean lifeguarding and hurricane rescue operations during Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina to mountain flight rescues in the rugged Rockies. In 2012, she joined Air Methods in Durango, Colorado, flying high-stakes missions as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic. There, she met pilot Brandon Laird, and their shared love of flight and service led to marriage and the founding of Colorado Highland Helicopters — a flight school focused on mountain training and law enforcement rescue support.

Though Dayle was told she could not have children, she and Brandon were blessed with two miracle babies, Brohdy and Ghrey. Despite her many accomplishments, Dayle faced the invisible wounds of PTSD — a reality many first responders quietly endure. She sought treatment multiple times, but tragically lost her battle in December 2022.

Dayle’s legacy lives on through this fundraiser, with 100% of raffle proceeds benefiting the McCook Fire Department. Funds will be used to purchase vital EMS equipment, helping local first responders better serve the community Dayle once called home.

“She helped people in their hardest moments — now let’s carry that mission forward in her name,” the family shared.
