Community Hospital Wraps Up No-Shave November With Beard Voting and Fundraising for Cancer Care

December 3, 2025

McCOOK Neb. — December may have arrived, but the beards of No-Shave November are still getting their moment in the spotlight at Community Hospital.

Throughout the month of November, staff members put down their razors to raise awareness for cancer and support local patients receiving treatment at the Community Hospital Cancer Center. Now that the shaving ban has officially ended, the hospital is inviting the public to help choose this year’s winning beard.

Where No-Shave November Comes From

The national No-Shave November movement began in 2009 when the Hill family of Chicago created the campaign in honor of their father, Matthew Hill, who passed away from colon cancer. The idea was simple: skip shaving for the month, donate the money you would normally spend on grooming, and use the conversations sparked by growing facial hair to raise awareness.

Since then, No-Shave November has grown into a nationwide fundraiser supporting cancer research, prevention, and education.

How Community Hospital Joined the Fun

Community Hospital has put its own local twist on the tradition. Staff across multiple departments grew out their facial hair from November 1–30, then showed up clean-shaven on December 1 with brand-new “after” photos to match their scruffy “before” shots.

Now the community gets to decide who grew the best beard of 2025.

How to Vote

The hospital is offering two ways to cast a vote:

In Person:

Drop spare change into the jar of your favorite beard in the hospital’s front lobby.

Online:

Vote in the Facebook People’s Choice Award by liking or sharing the beard photo you want to support.

Each like and each share counts as one vote.

All proceeds go directly to the Community Hospital Health Foundation, supporting future cancer care here in southwest Nebraska.

Why It Matters

What started as a fun tradition is also a meaningful one. The money raised stays local, helping fund equipment, services, and support for patients undergoing treatment at the Community Hospital Cancer Center.

And judging by the before-and-after photos, the staff definitely committed to the cause — some of the transformations are worthy of awards all on their own.

Final Tally Coming Soon

Voting is open now, both online and in the hospital lobby. Every coin, like, and share helps support cancer care close to home.
