McCook, NE – Art enthusiasts, aspiring painters, and seasoned artists in Southwest Nebraska have a rare and exciting opportunity approaching! Nationally recognized Nebraska native, Todd A. Williams, whose stunning works are sought by prominent collectors and displayed in museums across the country, will be hosting a three-day painting workshop right here in McCook on June 16, 17, and 18, 2025.
Presented by the McCook Art Guild, this immersive workshop offers a unique chance to learn from a master of his craft. Todd A. Williams, born in Central City, Nebraska, has built an impressive career marked by critical acclaim and widespread exhibition. His paintings, praised by gallery owners like John Pence for their "superb atmospherics" and "delicate details," resonate with collectors including CEOs of major corporations and prominent financial institutions. His work is also held in the permanent collections of prestigious museums such as the Nebraska State Museum, the Great Plains Art Museum, and the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA).
Perhaps most notably, Williams was selected in 2012 as the exclusive artist to represent Nebraska for its Sesquicentennial Anniversary, creating "The Legacy of Nebraska" – a series of 123 paintings depicting historical and contemporary subjects from all 93 counties. This monumental undertaking showcased his deep connection to his home state and his exceptional artistic range.
This upcoming workshop is designed for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and welcomes those working with oil or their preferred medium. While Todd will demonstrate in oils, his teaching approach is universally applicable. Participants will delve into the critical elements of creating a unique artistic voice, exploring techniques such as:
* Squinting, Design, and Value Control: Mastering the foundational principles that give a painting structure and impact.
* Color Control and Edges: Learning to manipulate color and define forms with precision and sensitivity.
* Paint Manipulation and Variety/Unity: Discovering how to create compelling textures and harmonies in your work.
* "Turn of the Century Masters": Gaining insights into the techniques that transform paintings into museum-quality works of art.
* Alla Prima Approach (Thin to Thick, Wet into Wet): Benefiting from learning this direct and dynamic painting method.
* Creating Your Own Painting Panels: Adding the valuable skill of preparing your own painting supports, using a proven method.
The workshop format will include instructor demonstrations, individual critiques tailored to each student's needs, and engaging discussions, ensuring plenty of personalized attention. Past participants rave about Todd's teaching ability, with testimonies like Dennis Stevens stating, "Even though I already knew how artistic Todd is, I now realize how good a teacher he is too!" Doug Molin highlights Todd's dedication, noting he "worked hard to connect with each of us and appreciate whatever level of talent we brought to the table."
This is more than just a painting workshop; it's an opportunity to gain inspiration, refine your skills, and connect with your creative potential under the guidance of a truly exceptional artist and educator.
