McCook Neb. - Today marks an important milestone in my journey with stage 1 triple negative breast cancer. I am starting round 4 of Chemotherapy. After today's treatment, I am down to potentially just two more sessions. Next week, I'll undergo an MRI to determine whether I need another round of chemo or if I can move forward to surgery.

Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, and the word "cancer" carries so much weight and fear. However, it’s crucial to understand that cancer encompasses a wide range of conditions, and each person's experience is unique. While I have had an easier time with chemotherapy and was fortunate enough to catch my cancer early, I know that this isn't the reality for everyone.

I have been incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from my community during this time. It has reminded me of the importance of connection and the strength we find in one another. Yet, I’ve also faced some challenges, including the fact that a few people I care about have stepped back from my life. This has been hard to process, but I understand that my journey may remind them of painful times in their own lives. Cancer is a scary word, and it can evoke deep emotions, even in those who aren’t directly affected.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge those who have lost loved ones to breast cancer. Your pain is profound, and my experience should never diminish the struggles and heartache you have faced. I carry your stories with me, and I honor the memory of those we have lost.

That said, I believe it's essential to share the message that cancer doesn’t always have to be the terrifying experience we envision. Early detection through regular screenings, like yearly mammograms, can save lives. When cancer is caught early, treatments may be less invasive and more effective—my experience stands as a testament to that.

If you are reading this and are due for a mammogram or have been putting it off, please take that step. Early detection can make a significant difference in your treatment journey, just as it has in mine. Let’s encourage each other to prioritize our health and advocate for regular check-ups.

Thank you for being part of my journey. Together, we can bring light to the conversation around breast cancer and inspire hope for those facing similar battles.
