McCook City Council Approves All Items at Monday Meeting

March 18, 2025

McCOOK Neb. - The McCook City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, March 17, 2025, and approved all items brought before them.

The council unanimously approved the Consent Agenda, which included minutes from the previous meeting, the filing of February claims, and several resolutions. These resolutions included authorizing potential debt for the sewer system project, certifying the city's capability to provide public transportation, and approving street closures for the McCook Chamber of Commerce's "Bash on the Bricks" and the 9th Annual "Cruisin' the Bricks" events on June 28th. Numerous applications from Great Plains Communications to occupy city right-of-way for the installation of underground fiber optic cable and related infrastructure were also approved as part of the consent agenda.

Under the Regular Agenda, the council took action on several ordinances. They moved forward with Ordinance No. 2025-3099, which authorizes the issuance and sale of up to $16 million in bond anticipation notes for interim financing of infrastructure improvements related to the upcoming sports complex. The council voted to suspend the statutory rule requiring readings on three separate occasions and gave the ordinance final passage.

An update regarding the sports complex project was also provided.

The council also approved Ordinance No. 2025-3100 on its first reading, which amends the city's purchasing regulations to increase the purchasing limit to $50,000, aligning with state law.

Several other ordinances were considered on their second reading, including Ordinance No. 2025-3096 regarding the conveyance of city-owned property to economic development organizations, Ordinance No. 2025-3097 to allow for the setting of fees for the McCook Aquatic Park, and Ordinance No. 2025-3098 establishing those specific pool fees.

The meeting also included a presentation on the annual financial and cashflow update for the Water and Sewer Utility funds. A discussion regarding potential revenue options for the City of McCook was also held.
