McCOOK, Neb. - Red Willow County Commissioners unanimously accepted the "voluntary resignation" of 47-year employee and former commissioner Earl McNutt at Monday's meeting, following a closed-door session regarding his potential termination.

After convening in executive session for over an hour to discuss the matter, the board reconvened and approved the resignation, effective June 30, 2025, without providing further details. The "voluntary" designation reportedly allows McNutt to retain his retirement benefits.

The termination discussion is linked to over $22,000 in previously tabled JNR (Lumen) claims, which are expected to be revisited.

Earlier in the meeting, the commissioners handled routine business, including approving financial claims, a tax exemption for Willow Christian Church, and renewing the county's medical insurance. Sheriff Kevin Darling also provided personnel updates. Other actions included approving agreements, accepting a donation, and acknowledging reports. The meeting concluded with a jail inspection update noting full compliance.
