MCCook, NE – The unique sounds of Pondstock Music Festival at Lake Hedke will be echoing across the water for the final day today, Saturday, June 7th. This self-supported, independent gathering of musicians, friends, and family is celebrating its 20th year, bringing diverse acts to Southwest Nebraska.
The spirit of Pondstock remains strong, largely thanks to organizer Vic Giron, known by his stage name El Jefe. Giron emphasizes the festival is a group effort, cultivating an event that celebrates music in its purest form, free from commercial pressures. His journey, from creating mixtapes as a teen to picking up the bass and eventually founding Pondstock in 2006, is a testament to his enduring love for music and community.
Pondstock is renowned for its eclectic lineup, carefully curated through personal connections and quality recommendations. As Giron has stated in the past, "Anything goes," featuring everything from DIY artists and singer-songwriters to "weird stuff you can't classify."
Today's final day promises a fantastic lineup, with music starting at 2:00 PM. Attendees can enjoy performances by Shawn Hess, John Poland's Weylian Gaze, Ponder the Albatross, Poudre Valley Playboys, Steering Ships With Empty Bottles, JawKneeVee, VOLK, Scott Biram, Freight Train Rabbit Killer, and The Peculiar Pretzelmen.
Concessions are available from Pahulu's, Carniceria, and Ice Cream Coach. Admission for the day is $35.
Pondstock's enduring appeal lies in its commitment to its grassroots origins, fostering an intimate setting where attendees are integral to the experience. It's a place where veteran performers and newcomers alike come together, creating lasting memories and reinforcing the strong sense of camaraderie that defines this beloved annual festival.
