Hot Summer Nights bring the heat-and the harmony-to Norris Park

McCook, Neb. - Norris Park came alive Thursday evening as the North Platte band Platinum Pearls headlined Hot Summer Nights, an annual community event hosted by McCook National Bank.

Community members gathered for the evening of live music and family fun, including long-time attendees John and Debra Walters. The event featured face painting, root beer floats provided by the McCook Community Foundation, and a community meal served by the Community Chest.

“We make it a tradition to come to the Hot Summer Nights,” John said. “We enjoy the bands, the entertainment, the people—the atmosphere is just great.”

Platinum Pearls played a lively mix of country and rock covers, including “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn, and closing the night with Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

“We’re familiar with a lot of these songs, but this is the first time we’ve heard this band,” Debra said. “And we were really impressed.”

The crowd applauded after every song. A few children joined in the fun by playing instruments like the cowbell and tambourine alongside the music. Off to the side, audience members like Lorri Grafel danced with joy.

“I love music, and I love to support artists and community activities,” Grafel said.

While Hot Summer Nights has wrapped up for this season, the annual tradition is sure to return, much to the delight of its long-time fans.

“I think it was a perfect evening,” Grafel said. “MNB always does a fantastic job. They passed out pictures, they passed out fans, and just made us feel at home. What a great way to embrace our community.”
