Helicopter Assists in Search for Individual with Active Warrant in West McCook

McCOOK, Neb. — A helicopter spotted circling McCook on Sunday afternoon was assisting local law enforcement in the search for an individual with an active warrant, according to a statement from the McCook Police Department.

Police say the situation began on Sunday, August 3, when an off-duty officer observed the wanted individual in the area of West F Street. The officer notified the on-duty sergeant, and patrol officers responded to attempt to locate the subject.

The individual was reportedly seen near McCook Housing on West F Street. To support the search, McCook Police requested assistance from a private company whose helicopter was already in the area. The aircraft made multiple passes over McCook to help officers on the ground.

In an email to McCook News Now, Police Chief Kevin Hodgson said the individual “had eluded officers,” and noted the private company offered the use of its helicopter to assist with the effort.

Officers were ultimately unsuccessful in locating the subject. MPD asked residents in the area to report any sightings but emphasized that they do not believe there is any danger to the public at this time.

“The matter is still being looked into,” Hodgson added. “We cannot share much at this time.”

The department also thanked the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office and members of the public for their assistance.
