McCOOK Neb. — The City of McCook is continuing its investment in water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable service for residents well into the future. City officials outlined several projects currently underway or in planning stages.
Water System Improvements
Upgrades are in progress at the city’s water treatment plant, including new filter media, tank rehabilitations, and salt tank improvements. A major manganese removal project is also moving forward, which will improve water quality throughout the system.
To secure long-term water availability, the City is evaluating potential new well sites. In addition, planning is underway to replace the sodium hypochlorite generator, which plays a critical role in water disinfection and safety.
Wastewater System Improvements
On the wastewater side, maintenance and upgrades continue at the City’s five lift stations to improve reliability. A new wastewater treatment facility is scheduled for construction beginning in 2026. Once completed, the facility will be more efficient and designed to meet future state regulatory guidelines.
The City is also working on sewer main replacements and lining projects to extend the life of the collection system and reduce maintenance needs.
Funding
These projects are supported through a mix of grants, State Revolving Fund (SRF) loans, and USDA programs. By combining these resources, the City aims to lessen the financial impact of large infrastructure improvements on local ratepayers while maintaining long-term system health.
Looking Ahead
City officials expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and support during these ongoing projects. Once complete, the investments are expected to ensure safe, dependable water and wastewater services for years to come.
