McCOOK Neb.- The Red Willow County Visitors Committee, is seeking two new members following the resignations of Tyler Loop and Bill Lesko, leaving the committee with only three active members. The committee's main role is to fund events that promote tourism through a 2% lodging tax, split into two separate funds for improvement and promotion. During their recent meeting, chaired by Dan Stramel, the committee discussed the importance of distinguishing between commerce and tourism. They approved funding requests including $3,150 for the McCook Chamber of Commerce's "Bash on the Bricks" event and $1,500 for sponsorship of the Southwest Nebraska High School Rodeo. Other approved expenditures included $8,140 for a website redesign and $1,250 for brochures, with a focus on promoting local outdoor recreation opportunities. Additionally, claims from the Improvement Fund totaling $24,296 were approved, which included wages and funding for the Indianola Historical Society. An Improvement grant pledge of $1,000 was also made for the McCook All-Inclusive Playground.
